This page is about Dynasty (1981), the original show that inspired the reboot, and the differences between those two.

The reboot is actually at the end of its first season and characters from the original series haven't been (or may not been) introduced yet to the show. Some original characters have been morphed with others. See below for the original characters, storylines, locations and businesses and their differences in the reboot.

Location and Businesses

The main location is Denver, Colorado, the scene of the oil battle between the companies Denver Carrington and ColbyCo.

The main location is Atlanta, Georgia, scene for the global energy battle between Carrington Atlantic, Morell Green Energy Corporation and the ColbyCo.

The Carrington Family

  • When the series begins, the Carrington family consists of Blake Carrington, CEO of Denver Carrington, his two grown children Fallon and Steven, and Krystle, his new wife and former secretary. Alexis, Blake's ex-wife and mother of his children, first appears at the end of the first season, and soon causes some troubles in their life.
  • Two other children of Blake and Alexis are introduced later, respectively in the third and fifth season : Adam, their first born son, who was kidnapped as an infant and never recovered, and Amanda, born after their spilt.
    • The addition of those two characters occurs after the departures of original portrayers of Steven and Fallon, who were both supposed dead before returning after a recast.
  • Fallon marries and divorces both times Jeff Colby and they have two children: Little Blake (nicknamed "LB") and Lauren.
  • Steven has a son Steven Daniel Jr (nicknamed "Danny") with Krystle's niece Sammy Jo, while Krystle has her own child Krystina with Blake.
  • At the end of the fourth season, Dominique Deveraux comes to Denver and is soon revealed to be Blake's illegitimate half-sister. Blake and Alexis estranged siblings Ben Carrington and Caress Morell, come to town in sixth season for revenge while Leslie (Ben's daughter) and Jackie (Dominique's daughter) later complete the family. However, by the end of the series, none of these five characters are still on the show.

  • The new Carrington family consists of Blake Carrington, CEO of Carrington Atlantic, his grown children Steven and Fallon, and Cristal Flores, his new wife and COO of the company.
  • Blake's estranged father Tom Carrington appears both times for family events before dying with some secrets. After being regularly mentioned, Alexis Carrington, Blake's ex-wife and mother his children, first appears at his funeral in the sixteenth episode.
  • Adam Carrington has been mentioned several times as a first born son kidnapped as a baby and never recovered. His fate is still unknown. However, Alexis hired her lover Hank Sullivan to play his role.
  • Steven marries Cristal's nephew Sam Jones in the first season finale.
  • By the end of the season, Jeff Colby and Monica Colby are reveated as Carringtons, children of Millie Colby, the illegitimate daughter of Tom Carrington.
    • Unaware of their blood-relation at the time, Fallon and Jeff date, have sex and almost marry before it is revealed that Fallon is already married to Liam Ridley, which annuls her marriage to Jeff.

    Krystle Carrington's Love Life and Family

    Krystle Grant was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, in a working-class family. She was a secretary at Denver Carrington, and marries Blake Carrington, her boss, in the pilot of the series.

    • Her niece Sammy Jo Dean, is daughter of her deceased sister Iris and was introduced in the second season. She marries (and later divorces) Steven and has a child Danny, who was raised by Blake and Krystle, before she returns back in his life. She is briefly engaged to Jeff Colby near the end of the show but they never marry.
    • Matthew Blaisdel is Krystle's ex-lover. They spilts before the beginning of the series.
    • Mark Jennings, is Krystle's ex-husband, who comes to town in season three of the series and soon reveals that their divorce was never finallized. They subsequently divorce and remain friends while she officially remarries Blake. Mark comes to death soon after.
    • After a first miscarriage, Krystle and Blake have a child, Krystina, in the fifth season.
      • Celia Machado was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela with her sister Iris. She changed her name as Cristal Flores and came to Atlanta where she became an executive in Carrington Atlantic. She had an affair with Matthew Blaisdel, ingeneer at Carrington Atlantic, and still has feelings for him but finally marries Blake Carrington, her boss, fourth months after their first date. Matthew was later killed in a mysterious explosion on a land purchased by Carrington Atlantic.
      • Sam Jones, nicknamed Sammy Jo by his aunt Cristal, is an openly gay male. He is Steven's on and off boyfriend and lives at the Carrington Mansion. His mother Iris still lives in Caracas after his father Alejandro left his family.
      • Iris is reunited with her family for Christmas at the Carrington Mansion and Cristal is forced to reveal her past : Alejandro never left his family but she killed him to protect her sister from an abusing husband, left Caracas and changed her name. In a final twist, Alejandro was revealed to be alive, working with Iris to blackmail the newly rich Cristal. After kidnapping Fallon, Alejandro tried to kill Cristal and Iris killed him to protect her.

    Alexis Carrington's Love Life and Family:

    Alexis Carrington was the British born ex-wife of Blake Carrington and mother of their two (later four) children. She left her family when Steven and Fallon were in Elementary School.

    • She marries Cecil Colby on his deathbed and inherited 50% of ColbyCo and becomes a professionnal rival of her ex-husband's company Denver Carrington. She still had feelings for Blake and caused some troubles in his new marriage with Krystle over the course of the series.
    • Her third marriage is to Dex Dexter. Their marriage is short lived but they still sleep together on differents occasions. Her fourth and last marriage with Sean Rowan becames nightmare when she discovers that he is a vengeful son of her past enemy. When Sean tries to kill her, she is saved by Dex, who kills Sean to protects her. While her marriage with Cecil Colby was the shortest of hers four, she used Colby surname for the major part of the original series.
    • Rosalind Bedford is introduced in season five as Alexis' cousin who raised Amanda as her own daughter in England.
    • Sable and Francesca, two other cousins of Alexis were later introduced in season six for the launch of The Colbys, Dynasty's spin-off. (see the Colby family section below).
    • Caress Morell, Alexis' sister, is introduced in season six as the same time as Ben Carrington. She was released from a prison in Caracas and soon writes a biography of her sister with little dirty secrets from her past but Alexis succeeds in stopping her.
      • Little is known from Alexis' past while she is still only mentioned on the new show. She will make her entrance later in the first season. To date, Alexis has no known siblings.
      • Alexis's departure is mentioned in the reboot that she left when Fallon was 15. However in the original series she left while her daughter was still in elementary school.

    Fallon's love life

    Fallon is the oldest of the two (later second of the four) children of Alexis and Blake.

    • When the original began, Fallon had an affair with Michael Culhane, her father's chauffeur, but she finally wed Jeff Colby and they had two children LB and Lauren. Their first marriage was short-lived and they divorced.
    • She unknowingly had an incestual relationship with Adam before she discovered that he was her older brother.
    • She also had affairs with Nick Toscanni and Mark Jennings before deciding to remarry Jeff but she disappears before the wedding and apparently dies in a plan crash with Peter de Vilbis, a former fiancé. She is revealed to be alive some months later, amnesic and engaged to Miles Colby, Jeff's cousin. She finally reweds Jeff but their second marriage is also short-lived. They reunite once more while he (Jeff) is engaged to Sammy Jo and later rebuilt their family in the Reunion movie.
      • In the reboot, Fallon is the youngest of the three children of Alexis and Blake.
      • She has an ex boyfriend Robby Reid. Their relationship abruptly ended after something unspecified "happened" in St. Barths.
      • She then started having affair with Michael Culhane, her father's chauffeur. Fallon and Michael spilt after four years and finally stay friends while she becomes closer to Jeff Colby, her high school friend and associate.

    Steven's love life

    Steven is the youngest of the two (later third of the four) children of Alexis and Blake.

    • Steven's homosexuality has always been an issue with his father, who thinks he can be "cured". When Blake surprised Ted Dinard in his son's arms, Blake brutally pushes him and accidentally killed him and has to face a trial for homophobia.
    • Confused about his real feelings, Steven finally marries Sammy Jo, Krystle's niece, and they have a son, Danny.
    • After their divorce, he remarries with his friend Claudia Blaisdel to get the custody of his son but soon developed feelings for Luke Fuller. After Luke's death, Steven shortly rebuilds a relationship with Sammy Jo before finally becomes a relationship with Bart Fallmont and reconcilies with his father about his sexuality.
      • In the reboot, Steven's homosexuality is a non-issue with his father but their different politic choices are the wedge that has them butting heads.
      • It is revealed that Blake gave money to Ted Dinard to get out of his son's life but it's actually because he was a junkie.
      • Blake also welcomes Sam, Cristal's nephew, under his roof knowing the true relationship he has with Steven.

    Adam's love life

    Adam is the first-born son of Alexis and Blake. He made his entrance in the season three premiere of the series.

    He was raised as Michael Torrance in Billings, Montana, by his "grand-mother" Kate Torrance, who kidnapped him when he was 6 months old, after the deaths of her son, her daughter-in-law and their baby son in a tragic car accident.

    • Kate Torrance watches Blake and Alexis make a television plea for the return of their grandson LB (Fallon and Jeff's son) who was kidnapped. Alexis confesses on TV that their first-born son Adam was kidnapped too and never recovered. Kate soon passed away and revealed on her deathbed to her grandson Michael that is actually Adam Carrington. Adam made her entrance in the season three premiere of the series.
    • Still using "Michael Torrance" name, Adam travels to Denver and meets Fallon. Not knowing who she really is, they share a kiss before descovering that they are siblings.
    • Adam is later attracked to Kirby, LB's nanny, but it's not mutual and he rapes her. When he learns that she is pregnant, he proposes to her. She finally accepts her proposal but suffers a miscarriage and leaves Denver.
    • Adam later has an affair with Claudia Blaisdel, Steven's wife. She divorces and they wed but she dies soon after in the fire of the Mirage Hotel.
    • Adam then marries Dana Waring, a former classmate and lover of Billings High School, who is now Blake's assistant. Adam wants to start a family but she reveals that she can't have children due to the abortion of their unborn child during her teenage years. They hire a surrogate but the woman finally decides to keep the baby. Adam and Dana divorce soon after losing the custody of the baby boy.
    • In The Reunion movie, Adam reunites with Kirby and proposes her again. She accepts.
      • Adam, the first-born son of Alexis and Blake, has been first mentioned I Answer to No Man after Fallon was kidnapped. As the original Adam, he has been kidnapped at 6 months old, before the births of his siblings. His status is currently unknown as Blake only mentionned that the baby "was taken" by the kidnappers and he thinks he is dead.

    The Colby Family

    At the beginning of the series, Jeff Colby is the son of the late Phillip Colby and the nephew of Cecil Colby, who raised him as his son. He was a neighbor of the Carringtons and spends his childhood with Fallon and Steven.

    • Jeff soon marries Fallon and becomes the father of their children LB and Lauren. They  divorce, remarry and divorce again before finally rebuilding their family. During their separations, Jeff has an affair with Claudia Blaisdel, shortly weds Kirby (Joseph's daughter) and become engaged with Sammy Jo.
    • Cecil Colby was one of Alexis' lover and briefly weds her on his deathbed and she inherits half of the ColbyCo with Jeff.
    • At the beginning of the sixth season, Constance and Jason Colby are introduced as Jeff's other aunt and uncle for the launch of The Colbys, Dynasty's spin-off. Jason Colby is married to Sable, Alexis' cousin, and they have three children : twin Miles and Monica, and Bliss.
    • Over the course of the short-lived spin-off, Francesca, Sable's sister, is revealed to be Jeff's estranged mother, Phillip Colby is found alive and Jason Colby is revealed to be Jeff's biological father.
    • At the very end of the series, Alexis revealed that Jason Colby is not the biological father of Miles and Monica but it was never confirmed.
    • Over the course of the series, Miles and Monica passed by Jeff's cousins (on both maternal and paternal sides) to his paternal half-siblings. It is never established verbally but since Francesca is Sable's sister and also Alexis's cousin, this makes Jeff the second cousin of his wife Fallon.
      • In the reboot, Jeff and Monica Colby are African-American Full-Siblings and children of Cecil Colby. They are High School friends of Fallon.
      • Jeff and Monica have a lot of cousins. One of them, Bobbi Johnson, is the Police chief of the City of Atlanta.
      • The original love triangle between Alexis, Blake and Cecil is merged to Cecil, Blake and Cecil's wife.

    The Blaisdels

    Claudia Blaisdel

    Claudia Barrows married Matthew Blaisdel while she was still a teenager and pregnant.

    • When the series starts, she has just recovered from a breakdown and rebuilds her life as a wife and mother of Lindsay, now a teenager. She has brief affairs with Steven, and later Jeff, which cause the end of her marriage. Matthew leaves town with their daughter and Lindsay dies in a car crash.
    • Claudia suffered another breakdown and is institutionized for many months before returning and wedding Steven to gain the custody of his son.
    • After their divorce, she marries his brother Adam but finally dies in a fire she accidentally starts at the Mirage Hotel. At the time of her own death, she still believed that Matthew died in the car crash with their daughter.
      • In the reboot, Claudia is introduced as a fragile woman with brain injuries due to a car accident. But she is soon revealed to have faked her sufferings to keep Matthew close to her after having this accident when he announced his decision to leave her. After revealing to have accidentally caused Matthew's death when she holds the Carrington family hostage, Claudia is arrested. She is currently expecting Matthew's child.

    Matthew Blaisdel

    Matthew Blaisdel is a geologist at Denver Carrington and former lover of Krystle Jennings before her marriage with Blake Carrington.

    • When the series starts, Matthew discovered Krystle's engagement to Blake when he returns to Denver after an overseas mission. He decides to launch his own oil company with his friend Walter Lankershim and hires his friend Steven. He also tries to rebuild his family with his wife Claudia, who has just recovered from a breakdown.
    • In the First Season finale, Matthew discovers Claudia's affair with Steven. He leaves town with their daughter and she dies in a car crash off screen and he is himself believed to have die too.
    • He finally returns in the Seventh Season Finale and holds the entire Carrington family hostage before Steven kills him in self-defense and saves his family.
      • In the reboot, the affair between Matthew and Cristal is not totally in the past when she marries Blake. When he mysteriously dies in an explosion of a land that Carrington Atlantic was in, his widow Claudia and his friend Willy Santiago claim that Blake Carrington is responsable but Steven is subsequently suspected before Willy commits apparent suicide with a confession letter. Claudia later confesses about the real circumstances of Matthew's death and is arrested.

    Carrington Staff

    Joseph Anders

    Joseph is the long life majordomo of the Carrington family, which he consideres as his own family.

    • When Alexis returns to town, Joseph soon wants her to be out of the picture after she blackmails him about the past of Alicia, his wife, who is in jail after killing her lover. Joseph tries to kill Alexis but she survives. He commits suicide at the beginning of the Fourth Season.
    • His daughter Kirby is introduced in the Third Season as a chilhood friend of Fallon, Steven and Jeff. Adam falls deeply in love for her but it's not mutual and he rapes her. Keeping the agression a secret, a pregnant Kirby marries Jeff but their marriage is short-lived and she turns up to Adam. He proposes and she accepts but she miscarriages. She leaves town soon after her father's death and finally reunites with Adam in the Reunion Movie.
    • Sean Rowan, Joseph's vengeful estranged son, appears near the end of the series and marries Alexis. He tries to kill her but is finally killed by Dex Dexter is self-defense.
      • In the reboot, Joseph is the devoted majordomo of Blake and knows all his secrets. He has contacts, knows some secrets from Cristal's life as Celia Machado and is aware of the secret relationship of Fallon and Michael. To date, he has no known spouse or children.

    Michael Culhane

    Michael Culhane is a bad guy and Blake's ambitious chauffeur.

    • He has an affair with Fallon during the first season of the series before disappears without explanation.
    • He returns in the Seventh Season as a businessman and seduces Amanda, the youngest daughter of Blake. After some businesses with Alexis, he disappears again without explanation.
      • In the reboot, Michael is African-American. He is still  Blake's chauffeur but lies to his parents about his real function in the Carrington empire. He is a good guy and has a four year secret relationship with Fallon before they spilt.
      • He remains Fallon's friend and confident and also share some friendship with Steven. It appears that rather than being bad like in the original, this trait was transferred over to Jeff Colby.
      • He dates Kori Rucks, a rival of Fallon and later begins having a sexual relationship with Monica Colby.

    Others

    Jeanette is a maid at Carrington Mansion and has a close friendship with Krystle Carrington. Mrs Gunnerson is the cook of the Carrington family. Gérard is later introduced as the new majordomo after Joseph's suicide.

    • In the reboot, Joseph regulary mentioned Jeanette and Mrs Gunnerson as members of the Staff of the Carrington Mansion.
